of course it will be hard to get any answers because of #1 below so this is a catch22

HI, neat trick. You will need to change the file association from the icon Properties (right click it ) to point to the right place.
Firefox version please ?
What A/V & Firewall are you running ?
Your browser identified itself as Internet Explorer 11. Can you paste this to the address bar in IE and press Enter to load it?
In Firefox, what happens when you try that address? Specific error message you can copy/paste?
