Does the removal of sha-1 certificate affect only newer versions of Firefox? I'm using an older version, Firefox 17.
I'm using Firefox 17 and want to make sure that SHA-1 support will continue for Firefox 17 beyond 2017.

Why are you using Firefox 17?!
Firefox includes a mechanism to download blocklists for vulnerable add-ons and phishing/malware sites, but otherwise, Firefox 17 is not going to change, it is not going to get patched, it is simply what it is. Which is a dangerously out-of-date browser!
You can read a number of articles about SHA-1 on https://blog.mozilla.org/security/
Firefox 17 is rather old and vulnerable now as 17.0 was released November 20, 2012.
