Recently, the small "Page Bookmarked" window pops up by the bookmark icon when I bookmark a page. Previously this did not happen, and I am wondering if there is a way to turn it off.

Press the star, not the clipboard.

That is how it works in Firefox 47, so you will have to get used to it. Previously you had to click the star a second time if you would want to move the bookmark from the unsorted folder to another folder.
