my bookmarks disappeared

I installed 17 updates that came from Windows 7 on my computer and I logged back on and I went to the Firefox Open Menu and clicked on Restore Defaults and my menu bar went away and my Bookmarks/Favorites disappeared also. So I clicked on Undo and the menu bar came back on but not the Bookmarks/Favorites they are all gone. So I clicked on Bookmarks then Show All Bookmarks then, Import/Backup, then Restore and under Restore it only shows ChooseFile there is no dates for the Bookmarks shown. How can I get my Bookmarks/Favorites back? Thanks for the help.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
