I assume most bookmarks are in Windows and Ubuntu is new.

Always backup bookmarks manually or by copying places.sqlite manually before doing any bookmarks restore. Otherwise if mistakes destroy bookmarks and History you will have problems.

Assuming it is a Firefox browser back up the bookmarks and import them Into the Ubuntu Firefox browser.

CARE note that overwrites and you lose any existing bookmarks. So export the new Ubuntu ones as HTML

Alternatively in Ubuntu mount the Windows partition and look for the database file in the Windows Firefox profile and use that to overwrite the existing file. The bookmarks database is places.sqlite BUT rename to places.sqlite.old1 to preserve, and export as HTML any new bookmarks

  1. locate the Firefox Windows profile. Easiest done from Firefox .
See Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile
  2. If you already have any new bookmarks in Ubuntu first export them as HTML (These may be reimported later and append. The firefox .json backups do not append they overwrite)
  3. Next Rename the existing places.sqlite file so it is not lost.
  4. Now replace the no longer present places.sqlite

Are you using an old Ubuntu ? You seem to be on Fx20. Current release is Fx26.
