Firefox "checked" my add on "Plain Old Favorites" and found it was incompatible and deleted it. All of my web addresses are gone. Personally I do not like Bookmarks and found this add on worked great.

It is best to avoid using ESR,

  • it is not supported for individual use.
  • recent versions are likely to have better features

Does PlainOldFaviurites actually work if you try ?

I note the add on website contains this

Hoping this will be fixed soon. But there is a simple workaround for Windows machines with Firefox as the default browser.Right click the Start button, left click Properties. On XP, left click Advanced. On XP, Vista and 7, left click Customize and put a check mark next to Favorites Menu. Click OK. Click OK.On Win 8 with Start Menu 8, right click Start button, left click Settings, left click Menu. Set Favorites to Show as a Menu. Click OK. Now your Favorites will appear in the right-handed column when you click the Start button. Windows 8.1 Preview does not have a customize feature for its stripped-down resurrected Start button.

I am not sure if that add-on is actively supported.

As I understand it the add on uses your IE favourites. Maybe it would be worth importing them into Firefox
