Well, this isn't a Firefox problem, and I don't know what email provider or program you are using, but there is a Read Receipt, which you can request be sent when your email is read. You can read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_tracking#Read-receipts for more information, then google how to request a read receipt with your email provider and the application you use to send emails.
