This latest update has broken so many websites for me. I can't see areas of most of the websites I visit, getting a "You are not connected securely to this site" notice even though there's a certificate when I check and it's always for a different reason. One unsecure image or one unsecure content warning or something along those lines and it's driving me nuts! I can't use a private window because I can't sign into any sites with the private window. All I get is the spinning, working on it thingy.

There was a place where I could whitelist sites to override this problem but now I can't find it and if I can't do something about this, will have to use a different browser, which I don't want to do. Can someone give me an idea here on what to do to bypass this? I've trusted these sites for years. They didn't just all go rogue the minute this update came through!

Any difference if you disable the HTTPS Only feature? This article may not include all the beta features but should cover the basic configuration: HTTPS-Only Mode in Firefox.

I'm not entirely sure that's the problem because after I posted this question, the site worked for a bit, then went back to the problem again. The site is celticradio.net. The picture is my dashboard. There are a lot of things on the dashboard depending on the tab you're on, Email, Music, etc, but you can see where it says *error* under the tab that says Details and it says that under every one. Since this latest update, that's what I see almost exclusively. I was shocked to see the page display correctly at one point today but that only lasted for about five minutes and then it went back to what you see in the image. I'm at a loss here. Like I said, I'd never seen this until this update and I don't see this in other browsers so it wouldn't suddenly be their site, I wouldn't think.

Also, so you know, I had to use Chrome to upload the picture. I can't upload things since this update either. The picture upload for this response on Firefox has been spinning for the past ten minutes now...

Have you tried "the usual" to see whether it makes any difference:

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with a site that recently worked normally, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. After a moment, a "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button should appear at the bottom. Go ahead and click that.

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe/Troubleshoot Mode: In this mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Safe/Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Thank you, yes. I did a clear cache/cookies, I tested in safe mode, a disabled all of my extension (I only have a few) and I did do a refresh, as much as I hate to. This site isn't the only one I've had trouble with, but it's the site that has been the easiest to report on because it's been the most obvious and the easiest to get a screenshot of.

I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that things change in the next update. I'm thinking I'm not the only one seeing this, but there are probably a lot of people who either don't ever bother to report problems or don't know how or think it's them.

Are you possibly using a proxy or VPN ?


You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

No, no proxy, no VPN and I've used 'forget this site' in the past when I've needed to correct an issue that I couldn't resolve any other way. My passwords are backed up 12 ways from Sunday. Any other info for a site that I would need is either stored on the site itself or I didn't need it anyway. No, this is something else and it's the update.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
