Last night, attempting to access my gmail account, I was sent to Google's login page. When I tried to login, nothing happened. I've tried clearing the cookies and other "solutions" suggested on all Mozilla troubleshooting pages I could find, but nothing helps. I click and click but nothing at all happens. No error message, but no Gmail either. I used it yesterday without a problem, and made no changes before shutting down. When I rebooted it later in the evening, it opened everything except Google or Gmail. Then after consulting and making changes suggested in Mozilla support, I rebooted the machine, but still no solution. I'm thinking of uninstalling, then reinstalling FF. Would that clear this up? This is a brand new Dell desktop, so I don't think it's the machine. Firefox v70. Thank you for any relevant, useful advice.

Hello mnosera,

In addition to the above :

Your system details show that you have Avast Online Security
installed, which just might be the culprit. Maybe disable it (for now) and see if that will make a difference ?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks to all! I messed around with it for a few hours yesterday, and finally found a Mozilla help page that suggested if clearing cache & cookies didn't solve the problem, then do those, and refresh FF (Fix login issues that require a user name and password to sign in). That did it. Thanks to all who took the time and effort to help solve this problem.

I'm glad that you solved the problem - well done !

I noticed that you marked my post as Chosen Solution, while it was actually you who solved it ....

You can rectify that mark by clicking on the "Undo" button to the right of my post, and then mark your own (last) post as Chosen Solution ("Solved the problem" button to the right of your post).

Again : well done !
