On an iMac running OS 10.13.5 Firefox 60.0.2 (64-bit) selecting Bookmarks - Show All Bookmarks from menu bar does nothing, no window opens. Selecting Bookmarks Toolbar from the sub menu displays "empty" as does Other Bookmarks. I am disconnected from Firefox Sync. Importing a saved Bookmarks HTML file fails. One user profile folder exists. Firefox was "refreshed" and restarted with no add ons. All were not help to recover over 2000 bookmarks saved over the years. All of the solutions found in Firefox "HELP" were no help. Thanks for any solution to this problem.

Hey there,

Thank you for coming to the forum for help, I understand that you are looking for the bookmarks in your profile after a Firefox Refresh and after trying to import older bookmark html files and that they failed.

There are two folders I would check for the files: "Old Firefox Data" will be on your desktop and there are two places.xxx files that you can grab from that folder.

The second file is the .jsonlz4 backups - one of the amazing contributors in this forum has a tool that we can use to read the files from profiles - https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html

Please let me know if the files you are seeing an unsuccessful restore are readible with that tool, also please specifiy which files you are using to try to restore bookmarks through Firefox.

I look forward to your reply!

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

See also:

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
