On 25Jan2017 I received a pop-up "from Firefox" advising to disable Web of Trust because it may cause instability. This occured almost immediately after updating my Sept 2010 iMac's "Sierra" OS to version 10.12.3. Is this an authentic message from Mozzilla or the Firefox browser, or some form of malware? I keep Firefox current [now 50.1.0], but have not yet installed 51.0 update yet [generally wait a week or so in case problems are reported]. Any advice? Thanks for your help.

As of January 24, 2017 - Web of Trust 20170120 and lower was blocked in Firefox, due to "stability or security issues". And that is with all versions of Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-ons-cause-issues-are-on-blocklist

The block request bug report reveals that WOT is accused of being "spyware" and selling private data to 3rd parties. http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/web-of-trust-browser-add-on-spioniert-angeblich-nutzer-aus-a-1119236.html

The TOS / Privacy Policy on the WOT website contained accurate information about those actions per EU rules, but they never updated their Privacy Policy in the Mozilla Add-ons website. Clear violation of Mozilla Add-ons website rules, so that extension was removed from the add-ons website.

Given 2 1/2 months had expired with no action from WOT to correct the errors / omissions, Mozilla decided to block that extension and disable it. User are free to re-enable WOT, but if WOT doesn't get their act together their extension could be hard blocked so that it couldn't even be enabled ny the user.
