Hi,

On at least two websites now have failed at the VISA Credit Card check (I don't know if that's a UK only thing) which, in effect is a screen that USED to require a password, was obviously hated by everyone and their dog, so got modified to go straight through automatically. On Firefox 50.0.2 it just stops at this screen, blank. There's no error that I can see although, to be fair, I haven't waited more than a minute.

On the two ocassions in question I have then used Internet Explorer instead (yuk) which works fine.

Any idea?

Thx

Keke

Hi Keke, can you make sure you do not have Firefox set to block redirects? You can do that here:

Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Advanced. On the right side, with the "General" mini-tab active, uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" if it is checked.

(This is an accessibility feature intended for users of screen reading software and not a general-purpose tool of value to most users.)

If that doesn't help, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Hi JScher,

That box was already unchecked so ...

My problem with testing is that I have to buy something to test it, Amazon doesn't count because their payment system is different.

Of course the real truth is that if VISA hadn't started this stupid online checking idea (since they now make it go straight through implies few others liked it either) none of this would have been an issue. I wonder though, if it's only certain mechanisms such as WorldPay that have the issue ... I don't recall what that last one was so I can't say.

Ah well ... I will report back next time I try to buy something from a compnay not Amazon.

Thx for the reply :)
