How do I have a coloured background when writing/reading emails, but ensure sent emails have a white background when the recipient reads it?
I'm dyslexic and want to be able to write on a different coloured background, but for the emails to display on a white background when other people read the emails I have sent. Can anybody help please? Thanks!!

You can set the display colours. I believe this doesn't affect what is sent.
Tools|Options|Display|Formatting→Colours
Here you can set text and background colours. In the selection box at the bottom, "Override the colours…" set it to "Always".
It's largely successfully here in some superficial testing. Having set it for dark green text on a pale yellow background, I'm still seeing a lot of black text. I think if you want to ignore the sender's formatting entirely, you may have to set Thunderbird to display messages in Plain Text, and not allow HTML formatting.
