Saved Password Editor
I have lost or chosen to fix FF in the past (Refresh). Today, something else is going on. I did a system restore to fix my DESKTOP only,
I also had a FF update (41.0.2). After I restored everything, some of my FF tools had to be installed. That shouldn't have anything to do with Microsoft Outlook. So, what I had to restore was Saved Password Manager, which is not Firefox. Even when I reinstalled this addon, my passwords came back, but not this time.
Do I have to do a refresh - or can I just install passwords, even though they are not saved in the FF manager?
I didn't attempt this, because I am exhausted, cannot see straight, and can't follow directions, because I'm too tired. And especially because nothing else is NOT working. Why would an update kick off ah addon? It's still compatible.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
No, I don't have any Firefox files at all. The last time I used this method, I deleted the file. My recycle bin is empty.
I don't know if my third-party app is recoverable, which is why I didn't hit Refresh. It's too weird that it is gone - and of all of the things hardest to navigate without - it's passwords.
Since some of you helpful people are unfamiliar with my particular apps, and we are not talking about Firefox's passwords (although though would be great to have back, also), I really want to know if the data is somewhere - especially since - as I said - it populated in prior recoveries.

Using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because only white-listed files are restored, so always be cautious with using System Restore.
- You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files
- You may need to reinstall affected software
You can check if there are multiple profiles present in case an older version of profiles.ini got restored.

Excellent. Other than deleting a TON of important data, I lost my Desktop. SysRes, which is always my last choice - somebody has to remind me to try it - happened to be my first reaction for the first time in six years.
In the few times I've done SysRes, I have never lost anything to do with Firefox.
I deleted most - if not all - of my AppData Roaming files, but I am trying to install something (any necessary of the lost files/folder) from backup on external HD.
I did Refresh and created a new FF Profile. It was awful and a waste of time, and getting back to my OLD profile took about an hour - all told. I carefully named the new profile, to differentiate, and the damned profile basically disappeared through all measures suggested in FF Help Pages. I don't know where the new profile is, either, because searching for it in the ways suggested did not result in finding it. Whatever, I finally got back to yesterday's profile - for which I am essentially and eternally grateful.
I was wondering if FF has any of my old profiles? I have an old - profiles.ini from 2006, but only a couple of .ini files and no json's at all. Love to know what's in my backup, though, and if I can do anything with it.

What you need to do is to find the correct profile folder and use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and use the Choose Folder button to register this profile.
If the profiles.ini file contains profiles that are either old or not existing then you can remove these sections.

I don't really understand what you are saying, but it doesn't matter. I am using yesterday's profile /a new one isn't useful here.
By only answering one question at a time, it takes longer. I know you are busy. What I want to focus on, if possible, is if any of my backups (on external) have useful data. Can a profile.ini file by itself be pulled out of backup and restored?
Meanwhile, I am inputting passwords manually. Thank you.

You need a backup of the logins.json and key3.db files to recover the passwords.
