I would like to know exactly what is being 'shared' and collected from my copy of FireFox.

Hi hornetmo, this is kind of a big question because Mozilla (the maker of Firefox), the individual authors of add-ons, and the pages you view all have different access to data.

As you may have read in the above-linked article about the Health Report, Firefox keeps some data about its performance. Please see the "Data Choices" tab of the Options dialog for details on the various types of data your Firefox may send back to Mozilla, what it's for, and how to control it:

Advanced panel - Accessibility, browsing, network, updates, and other advanced settings in Firefox

Add-ons may monitor your use of them, and/or your other use of Firefox. Always check reviews for new add-ons to see whether there are privacy complaints made by other users, and try to find out, as much as you can, what kind of tracking/monitoring they do.

Websites, particularly popular ad-supported sites, may capture a lot of information about your activity. Is that something you wanted to know more about, or just the browser and add-ons?

The ability to share the same data resource with multiple applications or users. It implies that the data are stored in one or more servers in the network and that there is some software locking mechanism that prevents the same set of data from being changed by two people at the same time. Data sharing is a primary feature of a database management system (DBMS).
