When Yahoo Mail refreshes its Ad, Firefox puts it into the top Tab rather than the Yahoo Mail tab - and crashes. Help?
Yahoo's free mail service has an advertisement panel on the right-hand side which from time to time refreshes automatically. Of late I have had a number of crashes involving this refresh process. If I have several tabs open, one of which is Yahoo Mail but with some other tab "on top", the recent editions of Firefox (since about the beginning of March 2015) have sometimes (but only sometimes) been placing the new advertisement into the top tab rather than the Yahoo Mail tab. The advertisement appears in the correct place in terms of "Latitude and Longitude" on the screen, but in the wrong tab. When this happens, the whole browser crashes. The only way out seems to be to close every tab except the one for Yahoo Mail. That forces the ad back into its proper place and normality is restored - at the price of losing the content of the other tabs. I'm no programming wiz, but I suspect a problem with interpreting an HTML #top command in respect of a <frame> or <iFrame>.

Does this happen if you set the extension loading the advertisement to "Always Ask" in the about:plugins page? One other work around I can think of is to try an add blocker add on.
I'm going to guess this is an issue with Flash content. Could you try this:
(1) Disable hardware acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
That takes effect the next time you exit and start Firefox up again.
(B) In Flash, right-click the media and choose Settings, then the first mini-tab and uncheck the box to use hardware acceleration. More information in this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
If that doesn't help:
(2) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista and higher)
The protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.
