Hi,

I posted this question some time ago and since i didnt get any working solution and I still have this issue I am reposting it now. My problem is simple: I start up my computer and open Firefox. I browse the internet normally. No problem so far. But lets say I go to take a nap or I just stop browsing to do something else on the computer without closing Firefox or whatsoever. After a while I go back to browsing on Firefox (the same window with the same tabs are still open) but now no page will finish loading no matter how long i wait.

So I close Firefox and open it again. Then I get a popup error saying Firefox is still running and that i need to close it. When i close that popup then i get another error saying it was unable to load my profile. I close that and reopen Firefox. Now it loads pages normally again but but only for 1 or 2 minutes and not any more after that. I repeat the whole process and i still get the same results until i restart my computer.

I have checked for any viruses and i have none at all and there is absolutely no problem with my overall connection since no other programs have this problems only Firefox. What can i do?

Thank you.

Edit: Im having the issue right now and I just checked but seems like some tabs work and some dont so i really dont get it.

Thanks for your help guys. Okay here is a little update on this issue. I am still having it but I figured out a workaround after reading all your advises. Whenever this happens I just copy all the files on my current profile onto the folder of a different profile and restart firefox with that rpofile. Now I can browse normally with all my settings and data as usual.

Thank you.

I found that you have speedbit as your homepage and search engine It is regarded as a virus- /adware- /hijacker and it can be why it stops working.

http://malwaretips.com/blogs/go-speedbit-com-virus-removal/

I have a nvidia-gt540M and there was a new driver in december. check yours.

Common responses: Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi,

that was the first thing i tried but no use. So far the only solution I know of is to restart my system. Thats the only thing that works for now and its really an annoyance.

Also, I have noticed that not all the pages go away at the same time. Most of the times youtube is still available, at least for a while. I have noticed too that the rpoblem mostly occurs when I am loading a youtube video on the background while it is paused and I am doing something else. so I dont know if its any relation.

UPDATE:

I have been searching the web and I made some interesting findings. I happen to always have quite many tabs opened at the same time (up to 10 or so) and It turns out that Firefox sucks up many resources and that might be the cause according to this:

http://superuser.com/questions/331343/firefox-stops-loading-pages-after-i-have-several-open

please read the very last post there. I found out Firefox consumes over 200,000K and in fact its the thing that consumes the most in my system. I believe this may be the cause but cant tell for sure.

Help please... What should i do? Change to Chrome?

As you discovered open tabs is loaded in memory. Also you have a lot of add-ons, many loads into memory beforehand, to be ready when asked for. Do you need all? Despite that there is a add-on OneTab that converts tabs into a list, freeing memory. (200 MB isn't that much I'm using 250MB just answering this question.)

Upravil(a) Gnospen dňa

Okay, I tried many things and I still have this problem. I even reduced the number of opened tabs from 8 to 4 but no use. I cant believe Firefox is not capable of having 4 tabs opened without collapsing like that.

I think the only solution is to quit Firefox and move to another browser such as Chrome. Its not exactly my favorite option but at least it allows me to have more than 4 tabs without going offline until I restart the computer like Firefox. What a piece of shit.

Sorry but I dont understand what you mean. Thats not my issue at all. My issue is Firefox goes offline all of the sudden after a while and it cant be fixed until I restart the computer. Also, I dont have such am extension.

Your issue seems a bit different from other users reporting a similar sounding issue recently:

  • Your problem started in the time frame of Firefox 34, while the others started with Firefox 36 or 36.0.1
  • You need to restart Windows to get Firefox working again, the others need to restart Firefox to get it started again

So I'm not confident that the other threads will be much help to you.

You mentioned your computer being inactive for some period of time. Is Windows going to sleep, or do your power management settings shut off your network adapter?

In your earlier thread, it appears you did not try the Reset / Refresh feature. Have you tried it since then?

To rule out a problem in your settings folder, could you conduct this test:

Create a new Firefox profile

This is in addition to and does not replace your existing settings.

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should come with completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run) -- type or paste the following and press Enter:

firefox.exe -P

Don't delete anything here.

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like March22, and ignore the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

It might take a while to determine whether the new profile is works better than your old one. If you want to import your bookmarks from your regular profile during that time, here's how:

You can use the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or "Show All Bookmarks") to access the Restore feature. The trick is knowing where to find your bookmark backups in your regular profile. After clicking Choose File... you can paste this into the file name space and press Enter to drill down to your profile folders:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

The semi-randomly-named folder that has your last backup is usually the one ending with "default". Click into that one, then into the bookmarkbackups folder. Here you can pick the most recently updated file to restore.

Important: a Restore wipes any bookmarks currently in your active Firefox profile and replaces it with the contents of the restored backup.

Thank you guys for your help. My computer never goes to sleep, only the monitor goes off. I havent tried the reset option yet because I read it would require to remove my browser data. So thats like my last resort.

I did try by creating a new profile and I can browser normally with that profile so all this may be profile related? As I mentioned earlier one of the symptoms is that as soon as this problem comes up, I get a window with a warning saying my profile is inaccessible after I close Firefox and try to restart it.

Hi, I posted this question some time ago and since i didnt get any working solution and I still have this issue I am reposting it now.

Possible solutions:

(1) Disable IPV6: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can#w_ipv6

(2) Create a new Firefox Profile Folder, requires careful thought, reading, and time --

A. Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile

B. Use the Firefox Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

C. Profile Manager (not the same as Firefox Profile Manager): https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Profile_Manager

D. Backup and restore your Firefox Profile Folder: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

E. Backup your Firefox Profile Folder with FEBE: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/?src=ss
