Completely broken: black blank page, no menus or toolbars, no tabs, nothing.

I tried to open up Firefox today, but when I did, it was entirely broken. The top bar of the window was huge, but the minimize/restore/close buttons were still the same size. The window was blank white for a moment as it appeared to load something, but the loading strip in the bottom corner didn't display an address or any information before the page turned black. There were literally no features whatsoever in the browser: the URL bar, buttons, bookmarks, menus, and tabs were simply not there. Hitting ALT and right-clicking did nothing. I moused over the blank window and entirely by coincidence discovered the alt-text of an image that belonged to a site I had open the night before, so obviously something had loaded. I closed and reopened the program several times, restarted my computer twice, shut it down completely and booted it up again, and finally tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, all to no avail. I took a screencap of the browser's current state for reference, though I'm not sure how helpful it will be since there are literally no visible features to look at.

For the record, it was working perfectly fine last night. It was only after I booted up my computer for the first time today that I encountered this problem.

hello Speck, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem.

Intel guide to find out which model you're using

in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode by pressing the shift key while the application is launching & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).
