Need to transfer BOOKMARKS - from XP desktop .. to .. W7 laptop
I have tried 2 methods:
1) copying BOOKMARKS from desktop to laptop (didn't work) 2) sync-ing the 2 computers (didn't understand)
Can somebody help? I don't know which method is the best, and how to do either. I am really a novice when it comes to computers, so I'll need VERY specific, step-by-step instructions. The instructions at Mozilla support for sync-ing made my brain run around in circles.

Hello,
The Mozilla have this help article, i think that it will help you:
Thanks for the link, but I have already read/tried both of the suggestions in the link, as stated in my original post.
1. Copying the BOOKMARKS file (manual backup and restore) didn't work. I got the message "unsupported file type" when I tried to restore on my laptop, even though it was a ".json" file.
2. I don't understand the sync-ing instructions on the Mozilla website. Very confusing to me. I am asking for someone to explain in plain English what I need to do on my desktop, and then what I need to do on my laptop. I'm not dense, I'm just NOT SAVVY about this sort of thing.
Try export your bookmarks as HTML:
Then in your laptop you import from the exported html.

Make sure that the bookmarks backup file has the correct (lowercase) file extension:
- .html for a HTML backup
- .json for a JSON backup
You can check the file type via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "Firefox > New Tab > Open File" or "File > Open File".
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup shows as a web page with clickable links.
A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded": An HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
