Does FF use a different jpeg decoder? Internet Explorer displays a jpeg image but FF doesn't.
I can view a jpeg image on my hard drive with the OPEN option, but when I do the same thing with FF, the image is corrupted. I have done all the normal troubleshooting so I'm thinking FF must use a different decoder than IE. Is there a way to have FF used the same jpeg decoder that IE uses.

There's a very good chance Firefox uses different code for decoding images because Firefox needs to work across platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux). I'm not aware of any way to change that.
Can you recognize any pattern to the images that Firefox can't display?
Is the file extension .jpg or something custom?
Does it work any better if you open a new tab in Firefox (e.g., Ctrl+t) and drag and drop the image onto the tab rather than using Open File?

My computer was working with FF then one day it stopped. I believe it is a hardware problem. Been using IE to see images but I don't like to use it. Too bloated. Just downloaded the OPERA browser and it works great, all images are displayed and it runs fast. Thanks again.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

waka, thanks for replying. As stated previously, I have done all the available tests, including FF Safe mode, and no joy. I even took a new hard drive, loaded Windows XP and a clean copy of FF on it and still no joy. It is a hardware problem. Fortunately, Opera runs well including displaying the images so I am happy for now.
