Why can I upgrade Safari on Mac OX10.5.6 but not Firefox?

My computer hard drive crashed and I had it replaced, but I am now installing all the software, but find I cannot upgrade my OS system without moving the "Lion" ... which I will probably do, but my problem is that although I like Firefox better than Safari, at least the upgrades are easier and don't keep requiring system upgrades. Are you going to continue to do this so quickly (and delete all the old) in the future? If so, maybe it is best for me to stick with Safari. Jacquie Meck

You can use TenFourFox, which is a third-party build of Firefox designed to work on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard).

The latest version of Firefox requires at least Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Whereas the latest version of Safari requires at least Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).

The last update Apple released for Leopard is dated August 5, 2009. Mozilla continued to support it until November 20th, 2012.

TenFourfox only works on a Mac with a PowerPC processor and not on an Intel Mac, so you can't update beyond Firefox 16 unless you update your Mac OS

It should work, though whether it runs acceptably well is another story.

Sorry I omitted that warning the first time around.

The last to work was 16.0.2 to be more accurate ;)

Otherwise another option is 10.0.12 esr however the 10.0.*esr branch will be dropped and 17.0.*esr will be supported when Firefox 19.0 is released. The 10.0.12esr came out when 18.0 was released.

I don't think that running Firefox under Rosetta as a PowerPC application is of any use.
Such an emulation is likely to be very slow and is probably only of value if you can't access a website with other Firefox versions that are at your disposal.
