Why does IE launch itself at certain sites?
Lately,at certain websites like Amazon.com and my banks site,for no apparent reason IE will show up over Firefox. Is there a reason for this and is there a way to prevent it?

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."
