email bunching
The new software update bunches related emails together and shows them as one (with a > next to it). For example, the original message and three responses take up one line in the message Inbox. How can I untangle it so each message would show up as one line and not be bunched any more (like the old days!)

That's called threading. Try this to stop it and give each message its own line: Open the Menu Bar (if it's not showing, press Alt), click View, then Sort by, and then click UNthreaded. Close and open TBird. Should be OK.
