Firefox Suggest has reared it's head again in the new beta. Does anyone know if it's possible to turn it off? The checkbox referenced here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/navigate-web-faster-firefox-suggest no longer seems to exist and I don't see anything in about:config that looks like it.

The preference to turn off the "Firefox Suggest" label in Firefox 92 Beta address bar suggestions is: browser.urlbar.groupLabels.enabled set to false.

It looks like this setting just removes the "Firefox Suggest" label from the address bar suggestions list. The actual entries apprear to be the same, from the little testing I've done.

Thanks, but that doesn't affect it.

I noticed that Firefox Suggest was enabled in the address bar search results for my default Firefox 91 profile, without having the browser.urlbar.quicksuggest.enabled or browser.urlbar.experimental.firefoxSuggestLabels.enabled preferences set to true and without the "Show Firefox Suggest in the address bar (suggested and sponsored results)" Search Suggestions setting appearing in the Search panel, as the Navigate the Web faster with Firefox Suggest article shows.

Type about:studies into your address bar and see if you have an active study listed (see the About studies article to learn more). I had an active "Smarter Suggestions in the AwesomeBar" study listed for my default Firefox 91 profile and when I removed it, Firefox Suggest was gone from my address bar search results.

Thanks. I have no active or past studies listed.

I checked in different Firefox 92 Beta profiles and it looks like "Firefox Suggest" entries are enabled in the address bar, no matter what I set for browser.urlbar.quicksuggest.enabled or browser.urlbar.suggest.quicksuggest in about:config and with no active studies shown in about:studies.

Setting the browser.urlbar.quicksuggest.enabled preference to true in about:config will change your Firefox Settings so that "Show Firefox Suggest in the address bar (suggested and sponsored results)" appears as an option in the Search settings panel under Search Suggestions. (De-selecting this option will set the browser.urlbar.suggest.quicksuggest preference to "false" in about:config.) These two settings do not affect whether or not "Firefox Suggest" entries are shown as suggestions when you type into the address bar, however.

"Firefox Suggest" entries will not appear in Firefox 91 unless you set the about:config preference browser.urlbar.experimental.firefoxSuggestLabels.enabled to true. (This preference is mentioned in Bug 1708621 Add experimental Firefox Suggest label in the urlbar view to support Firefox Suggest experiments ... verified fixed Milestone: 90). NOTE: The browser.urlbar.experimental.firefoxSuggestLabels.enabled preference may only control whether or not Firefox 91 address bar suggestions are labeled "Firefox Suggest". The entries themselves may be the same. (I researched the QuickSuggest feature but I'm not a Mozilla employee or NDA'd contributor and don't have access to all content, such as certain bugzilla links.)

The browser.urlbar.experimental.firefoxSuggestLabels.enabled preference no longer exists in Firefox 92 Beta. I found this related report: Bug 1723149 Opened 2021-07-30 11:12 EDT Closed 2021-08-05 23:39 EDT Enable Firefox Suggest label for en-US Status: VERIFIED FIXED Milestone: 92 Branch

Please see Bugzilla Etiquette before commenting in bug reports.

Firefox Beta is a pre-release version of Firefox for testing purposes so I'm guessing that Mozilla is testing the Firefox Suggest feature and that it will be fixed in an upcoming release so that that users can enable or disable it in the Firefox Search settings panel. If you consider this to be a defect in Firefox 92 Beta and want to file a new bug report, see File a bug report or feature request for Mozilla products.
