Does anyone know of a way to continue to use the "Tags" add-on with TB V78? I use it very aggressively and it is something I miss terribly with the 78 upgrade. If no, Then because of that and a few other reasons, I'm thinking about downgrading to V68 and may need some help with how to safely do that. Thanks!

I can't find any add-on named Tags. What features are you using? There is Tag Toolbar for 78.

Not sure if I'm calling it the correct thing. I initially found it in an add-ons list. It generated a Tags toolbar that allowed you to display the tags across the bar. Now I get a message that the old tag toolbar is incompatible with Thunderbird 78. The new one does not allow tags to be displayed (only pop-up) and that was the whole charm of the thing in the first place. I was hoping someone might have found a way around it.

This is the error message I see in the add-ons manager: "Tag Toolbar v1.x are for Thunderbird 68. For Thunderbird 78, install v2.x. From v2.0.0 tags are not displayed on toolbar due to the limitation of MailExtensions. Tags are shown in popup of the toolbar button. So, Tag Toolbar is renamed to Tag Popup. You can also toggle tags by clicking a tag label in the message header view in v2.x series."

The error message is the same as the disclaimer on the Tag Toolbar site. Before you go to the trouble of downgrading to 68, consider whether the add-on's options in TB 78 are sufficient.

The options are adequate, but not nearly as efficient as the full add-on. So, I downloaded V68 and am considering. I will think about it. Thanks for your responses. Much appreciated.

The ability to create an additional toolbar was removed hence why the addon author had to rewrite the addon to work within the confines of the Thunderbird program. It was renamed to Tag Popup: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/tag-toolbar/

I did post a bug report about inability to add a toolbar, but it was deemed as a 'Wontfix'. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1658559

If you feel like downgrading, which is not ideal as it does not ake into account various bug and security fixes, you would need to download, install and then do not auto run. You will need to run a command to allow you to downgrade. You will also need to fix address books as they will have been converted to sqlite files. Thanks for your detailed response. I read the bugzilla thread and my issue is exactly the one that V S Rawat posted. So clearly, it is not something that will be fixed. It is the one feature that made me love using Thunderbird, so we'll see if I continue or not, or if I downgrade or not. Unless there are very serious security issues related to downgrading, I will seriously consider it. Thanks again!
