Just to make sure; have you done this :

3-bar menu (or Tools) => Options => Search

Under "Search Bar": uncheck "Add search bar in toolbar"  ?

Next question : after you have dragged it to Customize; did you then click the blue "Done" button ?

The Search Bar and the Address Bar are two different bars. The subject line of this thread is:

"Why does the address bar for search and navigation not stay gone?"

The address bar can't be removed.

Why do you want to remove it?
