Occasionally when I perform some action in a tab such as click on a link or proceed to a followup page A BRAND NEW TAB APPEARS WHICH APPEARS TO BE MARKETING OR SOMETHING.. Nothing to do with what I was doing, and focus is taken to this new "SPAM" tab. How do I prevent this?????

hello, could you enter about:support into the address bar of the browser, copy the text of that page and paste it here into a reply on the support forum? this will give us a better idea about the problem and potential solutions...

Can you attach a screenshot?

No not really. They are just random marketing tabs that appear. The last one was from Avis. Picture you going about your business using a web page in one of the tabs on Firefox. All of a sudden you are taken to a brand new tab page with some marketing/selling product. Don't know how to describe it any clear. IT IS NOT A POP-UP WINDOW, IT IS A BRAND NEW TAB (page) in Firefox. Happens randomly, but several times a day for me now.

Does this happen in safe mode (about:support then launch safe mode)? Do you have any extensions? If you suspect that your firefox install was modified, you can always refresh firefox if you don't care for or have any extensions.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
