My Win 8.1 uses Thunderbird 38.5. I want to upgrade to current version and retain all my folders.
My wife's computer runs Win 8.1 and is running Thunderbird ver 38.5 as on POP 3 server. I need to change from POP to IMAP, but I also need to retain all her Folders in Thunderbird. My first question is how best to do this. Should I up grade to the latest TB first or make the transition from POP to IMAP first? Of course, I MUST be able to retain ALL of her FOLDERS from the POP 3 version. A side question is will the Profile Folder for ver 38.5 be usable in the latest Thunderbird? And if it is usable, will a simple upgrade of Thunderbird pick up that older Profile and make all her folders visible and usable in the new version.
If I upgrade from the 38.5 version of TB and it enables all folders to be seen and used, how can I then change it from POP 3 to IMAP and insure that the folders are retained.
I already tried to move the folders from the present POP version to IMAP by drag and drop the folders from the POP to IMAP and it transferred about 8 folders of some twenty folders and then stopped working. I tried this several times and it stopped at the same point each time.
In short I have two issues. 1. Retaining all folders when I migrate from POP to IMAP. 2. Upgrading from 38.5 to the latest version of Thunderbird and retaining all folders. Paul
