Well the automatically add troubleshooting information didn't work so now I have to retype everything.

Firefox (nor Chrome) will connect to any web sites. Internet explorer will. This since I upgraded this morning from version 54 to 59.

I have gone through and tried the entire list of fixes available on the pertinent pages. As well as firewall, disable anti-virus etc, etc.

My internet connection works fine, as tested with another computer (with Windows XP & Firefox 35). Any help is appreciated. Thank you,

Keith

Problem Solved. Well, not really but after 2 days of screwing with this it makes me happy. I downgraded from version 59, 64bit, to version 56, 32bit.

Something appeared to have been blocking version 59 from connecting. Same problem with version 57. I still have no idea what despite trying everything suggested and more. Way more. A web search of the problem shows that I'm far from the only one to have encountered this problem. Some date back a long time. Some found relief through a variety of methods. Some sort of sorcery I expect. Others are likely in the crazy bin by now. Still weird that IE worked while Firefox & Chrome wouldn't. Sure glad I had IE installed.

Thanks again Fred for your efforts. Sometimes the best change is no change. I'm just happy my computer still runs at all after the changes I made while messing with this.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Hi Fred, Already tried these things. Tomorrow I'll try downgrading a couple versions. Don't know what else to do at this point. Thanks for the input! Keith

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network.

[56+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Look for Network. +++++++++++++++++++++ Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first try No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Sorry, that didn't help either, but thanks once again. In the information dialog (the ' i ' beside a sites URL, I get 'Connection Is Not Secure' and 'You Have Not Granted This Site Permissions'.

I've tried completely uninstalling my Anti-virus (Kaspersky), turning off the firewall, turning off Windows Defender. Yet something - who knows what - seems to be blocking. Again, this only started when I updated Firefox from 54 to 59. I have since uninstalled 59 and installed 57. No difference.

That was very good work. Well done.

Many have reported issues using the 64bit Firefox.

Not so sure about it being good work. Certainly frustrating work. Could be then that the reason IE works is because any version - even the latest - is old and 32bit. Whereas when you download a version of Chrome or Firefox you're getting the latest 64bit version. Don't know if a 32bit version is available anymore for the latest upgrade and I don't care. For now my version 56 is working just fine and I managed not to bugger up the operating system during the procedure, so I'm not going to temp fate more than I already have. Thanks once again, Keith
