how do i get rid of bing

more options

I have changed, deleted from the search options tried blocking and every time i go to fricking search there it is shitty ass Microsoft Bing. I have used Mozilla from the beginning honestly, hated AOL, yahoo, IE. put it on everyone computer i worked on well because i really cant stand Microsoft or apple of anyone trying to control e=what i can and cant do online. It makes the web not as fun and it becomes a hassle. which if i remember correctly in the start that is what the whole Mozilla Firefox thing was about. So do i need a new browser or do you tell me how to get rid of this bing shit. Are you Microsoft and face book and apple and google or are you GitHub, open source, free to explore?

This could be an issue caused by AdAware or Web Companion from Lavasoft.

You can look for a file named dsengine.js in these locations. You should only find channel-prefs.js in the "defaults\pref" location, any other file found here is suspicious and you can check the content of the file in a text editor.

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\

You can look for a file named dsengine.cfg in the main Firefox program folder.

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\

Delete the dsengine.js and dsengine.cfg files when present.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

Hi mmcgehee2010, the default search provider in Firefox in most of the world is Google and unless changed by you, by add-ons, or by malware, your preference should remain stable and unchanged from one session to the next.

The built-in Bing search plugins is just called "Bing" so if you are seeing any variation in that name as the default search engine, the first issue raised by cor-el is a likely culprit.

I don't know who told you that lie. Bing is not the default search engine in genuine releases of Firefox 57+ anywhere in the entire world. See: https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2017/11/14/firefox-features-google-as-default-search-provider-in-the-u-s-canada-hong-kong-and-taiwan/
