Sometimes I don't want Firefox to offer suggestions in the address bar from my history, bookmarks, and open tabs. I know how to open the preferences window and uncheck those options under Privacy & Security, but is there a way to disable all three sources with a single click, ideally without even opening preferences?

Thanks!

1. Open about:config in the URL bar and press enter/return.

   2. Enter browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches (or just search and find this preference) and double-click it to set its value to false.

Another way is to untick all search engines in the Options/Preferences, but they are valid for both the address bar and search bar, and you might want to keep them for the search bar.

Hmm. That seems to disable search engine suggestions when I type in the address bar, but that's not what I'm trying to do--I'd like to stop the address bar from suggesting sites I've visited in the past, have bookmarked, or have open, all with one click from the main Firefox window. I've attached a screenshot to help explain what I'm looking for.

Any thoughts?

This change of locations of those things in version 56 might be 2 soon to find something that does all 3 at once ....

Oh.Mozilla calls the URL bar or Location Bar the Awesome Bar if doing searches.

Have found this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remove-websites-awesome-bar-suggestions

This is what I use for the above https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/fat-free-firefox/?src=userprofile no idea if works on Mac or not, nothing says not so check page and should auto say if compatible , was just updated and am hoping he will update it for FF Quantum ver 57 release Nov 14th https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/09/26/mozillas_new_firefox_quantum/

Thinking might be grand wishes for all 3.

You can create a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar with this set as the location. You can ope this URL as a pinned tab for easy access.

Fat-Free Fox works on the Mac, but it's controlled from the add-ons screen, and I'm looking for something that will let me click a single button from the main Firefox screen, i.e., without opening anything like preferences. Also, as you point out, it'll break in November with v57 unless updated.

Similarly, that about:config URL will show all the config items relating to URL bar suggestions, but it still requires disabling each one individually. I don't need to find where to change the configuration, because I know that (cf. the screenshot I posted), and I don't need to disable history or suggestions entirely, because most of the time I want them.

I need to quickly stop Firefox from offering suggestions by performing a single action in the main UI. That means no opening Firefox preferences, opening add-on preferences, or going into about:config every time. Just one button, menu item, or key combination to clear all three of the boxes I outlined in my earlier screenshot.
