Addons is a word that Mozilla started using back during Firefox 2.0/3.0 days to group together the separate Extensions, Themes (complete and images), Plugins and even dictionaries and search engines.

A lot of times people think Addons = Extensions only when that is not the case.

What is the difference if addon=extensions is not the case?

The word addons does not refer to one thing as I said it groups together multiple things which is Extensions, Themes, (complete, image), Plugins, dictionaries, search engines, language packs.

Many newer Firefox users mistakenly think Addons only refers to Extensions.

I really wish Mozilla had not used the word Addons as it made for easier to do support before.
