I can't print in firefox, but I can print in internet explorer
I've tried the prefs.js fix with no luck. Any suggestions on how I can fix modzilla so I can print within the browser?

Does Firefox give you an error message when you try to call up the print dialog, or after you click OK in the print dialog, or are your printouts blank? It would be great to get a more detailed description of the problem.
Also, does it affect all pages or have you noticed problems with particular types of content? For PDFs, it usually works best to look for an icon on the PDF viewer's own toolbar instead of using Firefox's main menu.
Also, just noticed the forum detected your Firefox as version 31. Are you using the Extended Support Release (ESR) version of Firefox 31 that has the latest security updates, or are you a couple versions behind on regular Firefox 31?
When I click print (top left) it says "an error occurred while printing"
When i click print preview something flashes on the screen so fast I can't read it...then nothing happens...no print preview is available.
Printing from the three horizontal bar menu (upper right) does a quick flash of something on the screen, then nothing
The firefox page says my version is up to date...How can I check to see if I'm behind on versions?
With PDF's i need to save the download to my computer to print...even the print icon within the pdf has stopped working
I also did the font fix as suggested, with no benefit towards printing along with the margin baselines
Hi Bigggtommy, you wrote:

Do you mean you can't even call up the Print dialog from the File menu without getting an error, or is that after calling up the dialog and clicking OK?
When you select Print from the 3-bar menu, Firefox should call up Print Preview. So neither method is working for that.
It seems that Firefox is having a severe issue with reading some metrics from your printer driver or has some other setting or program problem.
In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).
Any difference?
After calling up the dialog and clicking okay I get the error message
Safe mode was activated w/o add ons....no change...i still can't print within firefox...thanks...any other suggestions?
If you can call up the Print dialog, then as a temporary workaround, you could use a PDF printer driver until someone figures out what is going on with your regular printer. What kind is it, by the way?
Here are two free PDF printer drivers I have used:
- PrimoPDF - http://www.primopdf.com/
- PDF Creator - http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator
If you are just printing for quick reference and don't mind a "trial edition" banner on your PDF, I really like this one due to its handy preview-before-save feature:
- pdfFactory - http://fineprint.com/pdf/
My printer is a dell 1110 and has worked very well over the years
I'm assuming the above links will download and install a pdf driver in lieu of my dell driver?
Thanks again
The PDF printer programs create a new virtual printer that shows up where you normally select a printer. They intercept the print job and convert it to a PDF file.
For your Dell printer, it looks as though the driver for Windows XP hasn't been updated since July 2012: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/dell-1110/drivers
I don't know whether reinstalling it will help or make things worse...
