Hi, I'm a fan of Firefox and this is not an issue as such, so apologies if I'm wasting anyone's time!

I'm a designer, so I couldn't help but notice the similarity between the Firefox logo and the Moon. I flipped a picture of the Moon horizontally and as far as I'm concerned they're an almost perfect match, the lighter area to the Southeast (bottom and right side when flipped) is very similar in shape to the Fox, the darker lunar mara defining his outline.

Only problem is my friends think I'm nuts for thinking they look similar! Can you please kindly confirm if the Moon was indeed an influence on your logo?

Please reply, a pint of beer may be at stake!

Kind regards,

Anj Avraam

This link http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/branding-firefox mentioned in above article explains some of its history start when a new icon was needed when the name changed again from Firebird to Firefox for version 0.8 (yes folks the browser existed for two years before 1.0 as it did not come out as version 1.0 as some claim).

Personally I kind of miss the big red flaming bird of Phoenix 0.1 to 0.5 as the icon for Firebird 0.6, 0.6.1, 0.7 was a fireball.

I'm not sure what sphere that is. This recent article links to some of the earlier history: https://blog.mozilla.org/creative/201.../a-new-firefox-logo-for-a-new-firefox-era/.
