why does my search bar sometimes send me to ask.com instead of google

When i use the awesome bar it started to send me to ask.com instead of the google search. Also when i would put in a website name without the .com it sometimes sends me directly to the website or to ask.com it doesnt seem to be consistent the way it use to be.
