Applet on Firefox for Mac is blank

Viewing these two applets in Firefox (most recent version, 47.0.1, and most recent Java plugin) displays a blank area where the applet should be. The applets seem to be running, but their display areas are blank.

Any idea why this is happening? Should I put some kind of extra applet paint command in my Java code to get these to display correctly? Thanks, Ian
