Firefox 5.0.1 is running like molasses, even simple scrolling; any help available?
Firefox 5.0.1 is running like molasses since I installed it. I often cannot get it to even scroll for a minute or so. Sometimes it seems like it might be Forecastfox causing the problem, since I get error messages (but don't know what to do with them). More than one URL is involved. Any help available? It's driving me bats. I use Verizon as the ISP -- have they slowed down service like they have threatened? I am NOT a power user.

Does it help if you disable Forecastfox in Firefox? (Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions, disable Forecastfox and then restart Firefox).
To troubleshoot all extensions, see Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems. See also Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems.

Thanks, Alice. Since I am a simple Firefox user, not an expert, your comment points me in (hopefully) the right direction. I didn't have a clue before your note. vms100

Use google chrome.
I had the same problem and I may have found an answer. I disabled the Integrated Gmail add-on and CPU usage in Task Manager for "firefox.exe *32" process went from about 22-48% down to 0-5% and memory usage is about half.
T215, thanks. I am pretty dumb on using Firefox, even after years of using it, but isn't Gmail a Google function? At any rate, I don't use any Google app, except once in awhile I use Chrome -- mostly for searches.
So, if you have the time, could you let me know if Gmail is, in fact, a Google app? That would rule out that fix, it seems, since I don't use it. Or, if you know, could there be something similar in my Mac's apps which would cause a similar problem/fix as you suggest? I am using OSX 10.5.8, with plenty of memory.
Thanks again.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks. Will try.
