whilst I was trying to stream a soccer match today I was attacked by what seems to be an online bug of some kind. It looks like a Firefox message saying - Important Firefox update available. Click "Install" to continue. - it says it is a firefox.exe program. This message box is covered by another box entitled Authentication Required. Inside the box I'm asked for my User Name and Password with the words - (http;//clockbug.cool is requesting your username and password. The site says "CLICK ON CANCEL TO CONTINUE!") - is this a malware attack or is it an authentic Firefox program?

Sorry but that isn't from firefox but a malware impersonating firefox and if you clicked on it then your going to have to take it to a computer shop to fix it.

Hello tomcefc,

Good for you to be on the alert, cause this is definately a scam.

When you get a scam page that shows that two-line 'Authentication Required' dialog, and you cancel it, usually the page will reload and show it again. To break the cycle, tap the Esc key several times in a row quickly. That should cancel the dialog as well as the reload.

To prevent this from happening again, you could consider installing uBlock Origin :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Just in case you did click on something, you should run the malware scans that are listed in this article :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

Better safe than sorry .....
