Suddenly, Firefox wont'open--clicking the shortcut icon results in my desktop being rer-arranged, resolution lowered, and non-opening firefox.

Windows 7, PC, firefox working for several years as default browser. With computer running and having opened firefox and used it successfully earlier in the day, it would subsequently not open. Clicking desktop shortcut resulted in the symbol being displayed on the bottom toolbar, but firefox would not open. clicking wither icon resulted in my desktop being displayed in the lowest resolution, still no open. Clickcing again again resulted in all the dsktop icons being re-arranged. Tried uninstalling firefox and re-instaling gives the same result. Chrome works OK. All other programs functional.

hi, please try to right-click the firefox icon on the desktop, go to properties > compatibility and make sure that you haven't set firefox to run in any sort of compatibility mode...
