Ever since updating my Firefox to version 57 for Windows 7 desktop (64-bit) I can barely browse without it getting stuck, hanging and/or not responding. I constantly have to clear my history and restart Firefox for it to work again. Often, I can't even do that, I have to open my task manager and end Firefox that way. This is driving me crazy.

I have UN-checked the forced hardware acceleration option, but it has done very little to resolve my problem. Please, I am NOT a computer wizard. I only know basic stuff from using a computer for many years; however, I know little about troubleshooting complex issues. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

hi Hvnly777, thanks for reporting this. can you try if this change can workaround the performance problem?: go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser.

Hi, thank you for responding to my post.

I am NOT exaggerating that it took me 15 minutes to get to the options page, and that was AFTER closing my Facebook and Hotmail tabs. Thereafter, I kept getting scripting and not responding errors. I then had to clear my history and close Firefox and then re-open it again just to get to the options and security and privacy page.

I checked the box as you suggested, so we will see what happens, but I am not getting a good feeling about it. I think I've been using Firefox for approximately 10 years, if not more, and I have NEVER had these kinds of problems before. In fact, I tell everyone I know to ditch IE and use Firefox because it's a far superior browser; however, NOT anymore.

I am sincerely upset about this because Firefox is becoming unusable to me as it is currently working. This latest version 57 is HORRIBLE.

Thank you again for your suggestion. I will post back on here if your solution works, and I also hope the developers are paying attention to this community help board.

Hi Philipp,

I wanted to add that I'm now getting Script errors, which has completely locked up my Firefox browser. The only thing I could do to close Firefox was to open up my Task Manager, go to the Processes Tab and end all the "firefox.exe" processes that were running. There was something like six of them; even though, I only had 4 browser tabs open.

The error read as follows: Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.j.s:8773

This is driving me up the wall; hence, I would appreciate any further assistance you can provide.

Thank you once again for your time and attention to this matter.

thanks, i'm by far no expert in this, but the code in browser.js:8773 seems to refer to toolbar luminance, so perhaps the personas plus addon can play a part in this, maybe try if you get the error still if it is disabled for a while.

or you could get out the hammer and try to refresh firefox (you would have to toggle the accessibility setting again afterwards).

I don't want to "Refresh" because I believe I will lose my Roboform add-on.

hi, as far as i understand it your credentials would be stored in a separate application and a reinstall of the extension wouldn't impact them - but i am by no means an expert on this 3rd-party program so it'd be best to check with their documentation before continuing. i am also sure that they'd provide an option to backup or export/import the data manually...
