I am the webmaster of a Community Website built by Association Voice. I am unable to make certain changes to the website using Firefox, but can do so with all other browsers. In Firefox I get the message: "This message will be sent as HTML. To enable the advanced content editing features of this site, please download the latest version of one of the following browsers. Internet Explorer - Click Here to Download Internet Explorer Firefox - Click Here to Download Firefox"

I have the latest version of Firefox.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, to no avail.

I cannot, for example create Hyperlinks or insert Photographs.

I do not have a problem if I use another PC. Some setting in my Firefox is wrong or I have another program on my PC that is interfering with Firefox.

Can you advise any solutions to this

Thanks

Ron Wallace

hello ronaldw6 , can you provide your website URL? Then we will test in conditions as yours.

This is an HOA website with confidential information on it and it is not relay appropriate for me to allow you that sort of access, since I have no idea who you are.

I would be willing to give you access to my PC and put you in to the site from there, and I can watch you while you test. This might be better as you will then see the problem which you are unlikely to do on another machine that is not set up like mine.

I would like to know a little more about who you are before we do this however.

Thanks

Ron Wallace

Are you using the same version of Firefox on both PCs? Do you know if there are any differences in settings or add-ons?

In case Flash is required, can you check the following:

(1) Type or paste about:plugins in the address bar and press Enter to load the About Plugins page.

Here you would normally find one entry for Flash at the current version -- Version: 27.0.0.130.

If you see any ADDITIONAL versions:

You need to get rid of the obsolete plugin to avoid having Flash blocked. Please see the following articles for the uninstaller and installer links:

If you only have one Flash plugin but it's not the current release:

You can update at https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ -- but please visit in Firefox or you may be offered only the installer for IE.

If you do not see Flash at all:

You can get the installer at https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ -- but please visit in Firefox or you may be offered only the installer for IE.

(2) Once you confirm Flash is installed and up to date, make sure it shows State:Enabled on the About Plugins page.

If it does not:

Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Never Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

(3) With Flash enabled, return to the page where you have limited features. Do you get a notification icon in the address bar, indicating that the site needs permission to use Flash? It looks like a small light gray Lego block toward the left end of the address bar. If you see that, you can click it and grant permission either for the time being or permanently.

You also can give permanent permission using the Page Info dialog's Permissions panel. While you're on the site, you can call that up using any of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the padlock or "i" icon to the left of the site address, then the ">" icon, then More Information > Permissions

Flash permission appears near the top. If you select Allow, that is saved immediately so you can just close this dialog.

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about the rich text editor.
