My emails were up to date, but when I selected "Work offline" I was told 210 emails will be downloaded first. But no emails were downloaded. What's going on?
. I have Thunderbird 52.3.0
Before doing a backup, I selected the 2-monitor icon at lower left. I got the message: "Do you want to download messages before going offline?"
Thunderbird had been open for about 3 hours, so all emails should already have been downloaded. But out of curiosity, I selected Yes.
After that I saw that 210 emails would be downloaded. But after the operation, no new emails had been downloaded.
As a check, I went to my Gmail site. But there were no new recent emails :-)
Could someone please explain what was happening? Where are the 210 emails?
Thanks. .

A possible reason: imap mail accounts show a remote view of subscribed folders on the server and download headers. When you select to view an email, the rest of the email is downloaded and stored in a temp folder (not in Thunderbird). This means that in offline view you may not be able to read the email, so a copy needs to be fully downloaded and stored in Profile folder to faciltate viewing in offline mode.
