Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

• Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

• On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
• On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
• On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
  (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Let us know if this works;   if not:   we'll have to keep looking.

That didn't work then     -     bummer   !
You said that your wife's laptop with the same FF version and all the same settings displays the local map correctly;   one would think that this isn't a problem with the browser then   .......
You also mentioned that you had the same issue with the 32-bit FF:   do you remember how that was solved   ?

I had 32-bit FF until yesterday, when I discovered there was a 64-bit version. The problem was there with the 32-bit version and remained with 64-bit.

Unfortunately Transport for London does not have a contact facility on its website for raising tech issues; I too suspect this isn't an FF problem at all.

It's only a minor issue after all, and not catastrophic...

'Couldn't let it go,   so I went back to the website you provided that link to;   then I click on   'More';  and then I clicked on   'Buses'   .........   guess where that took me   ???

I have brunch ready,   but first things first:
When I see the words:   'Map View',   I'm thinking about a map to view   ........   (no, seriously, I'm not kidding).
But:   is a map   all   you see on that site   ?
And:   when you're on that site :  /modes/buses/,   doesn't that give you the information you're looking for   ?
Last question:   could you possibly get some information from:  /help-and-control/   ?   (probably not, but hey:   worth a try).

'Just planned my bus-trip from  Portland Place   to   Heathrow Airport   for tomorrow evening   .........   on that site that doesn't work for you.
And of course I used   FF.
Your wife has no problems with that site, using the same   FF-version,   so,   it's safe to say that this is not a   Firefox-issue.
I really can't think of any reason why it doesn't work for you and I'd love to find out,   but I've got to go now.
(I'm not giving up just yet,   mind you)

The only thing on the TfL site that doesn't work for me is the local map in Map View. If I really need a local map, I'll just have to use IE.

Someone suggested trying a new FF profile, so I might try that when I have time.

Hi, try changing you cookie setting to 'Accept third party cookies: From visited' - Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox

If that doesn't work, delete ALL references to the website in question, as shown under the heading 'How do I remove a single website from my history?' in the above article , then try the site (not from an old bookmark) again. Note: It may take a few minutes to complete the deletion.

Deleted all references to that website in History, but no difference even when not using an old bookmark but typing in the full URL manually.

BUT: Someone suggested trying a new profile in FF, and I have done this - and it works - I get the correct map.

But I don't want two separate FF profiles, so I need to discover what is causing the problem in my original profile.

So it   was   a map you were looking for after all;   and here I was focussing on buses   .........

Maybe you'd want to copy data to the new profile:
Make sure that Firefox is completely closed before you copy data to the new profile.

It's recommended that you only copy data that would be a lot of work to recreate (such as bookmarks, passwords, and cookies) to the new profile. Extensions, themes, and preferences are a common cause of Firefox problems so you should re-install any extensions and themes and reconfigure your preference settings if you had problems with the old profile, instead of trying to transfer them. If you had problems with your old profile and haven't identified what set of files is causing your problem, it's recommended you copy files from your old profile folder to the new one in several steps, testing whether things are still working okay between steps

Whoever suggested you'd try an new profile,   deserves a medal  !

Issue is now solved: under about:config I had geo.enabled as "false". This overrode my allowing it on the TfL website. With geo.enabled as "true" everything works as it should.

So I can now delete my second profile.

That   'map-thing'  kept bothering me,   so I went back to the website,   and this time I clicked on   'view map',   and I was the asked if I wanted to share my location with the site   ......
Did you do that   ?   (share your location,   I mean)

Now I'm completely lost   ....... 'Thought you finally got the map you wanted   ??? But now you need another map for a completely different location   ?

Yes, the problem is solved.

What I meant was: if I want to access a local bus stop map for a completely different part of the Transport for London network, and I am sharing my location, would the site still display the correct local map even if it is not at my current location?

But I've just tried it for a location about 15 miles from where I am and it worked perfectly, without defaulting to the useless outline view of the whole of London.

I'm not quite happy about disclosing my location on a blanket basis, but maybe that's just a (justified?) fear of Big Data...

Understandable;   but don't worry:   nobody will know exactly where you live.
I must admit that I had a hard time wrapping my brain around your   'map-problem',   but I finally get it now.
