After realizing that my problem was codec c, I just went to my program list and uninstalled it. Is there some reason this wouldn't work?
People had some pretty elaborate directions for uninstalling it, so that's why I ask. My computer has been sort of crappy since I got it, so sometimes when I try to follow directions like that, I actually can't (for example, the option I need to click simply isn't there). Is there some reason to believe that just uninstalling the program wouldn't work?

If there is an entry in the Control Panel > Programs and Features, that's a good thing to try first. Otherwise, any cleanup you do in Firefox may be very temporary.
Meant to ask: do you have any symptoms in Firefox at this point, e.g., unwanted toolbars, diverted searches, popups, etc.?
Yep, that's where I uninstalled it, in control panel. It just seems like there shouldn't be long, complicated directions if it's actually that simple. All that "text enhance" crap is gone, though. Temporarily, anyway.
