After converting my Google and Gmail accounts to 2-factor authentication, Thunderbird on my 2013 Macbook Pro with Mojave has lost its connection to several IMAP folders I had created in TB Gmail. The folders appear in the main message folder window, but contain no files, and the IMAP folder paths seem to point to null files, see screenshot. Repair folder has no effect. The folders and messages are all still visible in the native Gmail app, and also in TB on another laptop, a Lenovo X1 / Windows 10 machine, also using the updated Gmail login. I have checked all the TB Gmail account and server settings, folder subscriptions, etc., but have been unable to restore the view that was working until the Google security upgrade. As of this morning, even my Gmail Sent folder, containing hundreds of messages, also shows no content. I have two other email accounts that TB accesses, both of which are fine and functioning as usual, so the problem is confined to the updated Gmail app. Has anyone else had this issue, and/or suggestions on how to resolve it and restore my long-used interface?

Webmail list of folders is ok - but What do you see in the Thunderbird Folder Pane, so it is possible to compare with what you see on server?

In Thunderbird - the window you posted showing server settings is ok - when you click on the 'Advanced..' button what is selected? please post image.

The webmail image showing list of folders, it shows the list of folders/labels, but it does not show whether they are selected to be shown in imap. - example as per image below. Can you supply image of the Settings > Label info.

Change you connection method to oauth2.0. Google 2FA is only suitable for mail clients with an application password and they tend to just die at random if the comments in this forum are any indication.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, that's not the problem. because it emerged only AFTER I changed my connection from Normal PW to Oauth2 as required by the Google / Gmail 2FA upgrade.

I did explore the possibility of connecting via a Google App Password, but that seems to be for establishing a general Google connection, which is not my problem. I can connect to all my Google accounts (browser, Gmail, and Drive), it's only the subfolders in Gmail that won't load in TB.

Have you subscribed to see those subfolders ?

Right click on gmail mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe' click on 'Refresh' then select all the folders and click on 'Subscribe' click on 'OK'

If the subscribe list is missing folders so you cannot select them: check in gmail webmail account that those folders are selected to be shown in IMAP. If already selected: Right click on gmail mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' Select 'Server Setting' click on 'Advanced...' button Uncheck the option 'Show only subscribed folders' and click on OK

Thanks very much, I've done all of those steps more than once, and tried other setting changes too, none of them works. FYI, I'm including screenshots of the TB server settings for my Gmail account and the folders shown in the native Gmail app, not TB.

Toad-Hall, you pointed me in the right direction, and the problem appears solved!

The attached screenshots show (1) the previous server Advanced settings (Bad), (2) the resulting mail folder display (Before), (3) the changed settings (Correct), and (4) the restored folder and content display (After). All I had to do was delete the IMAP server directory address and leave that field blank. All the messages that should be there are, and the italicized [imap.Gmail.com] folder is redundant. As I suspected, TB was pointing to the wrong file location, but I couldn't figure out where it should have.

So, now (for the moment at least...
