I have been using TB for years for my main e-mail-account. A couple of months ago I got a second e-mail-account (from a different provider) and added this account to my TB. Sending and receiving worked fine for about two months, and then it suddenly stopped working. It said "username or password invalid". I've reinstalled this account x times, with and without encryption, in all possible combinations, but it never works - TB says the username and/or password are incorrect. But I'm absolutely sure that what I've been entering is correct, and the login works perfectly well on the Webmail. The provider say they can't do anything and the problem must be Thunderbird. What can I do? My main account has been working fine all the time.

I use 52.5.2 (32-bit), but the problem started in early December, so it might have been an earlier version. I appreciate all help!!

The guy from the provider said the password should be "normal password", but TB always changes this to Kerberos.

Sounds like that is your problem. So use manual configuration as per the support article, and tell Thunderbird to use 'Normal password' authentication.

Who is the email provider?

Please post your Troubleshooting Information. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the "Copy text to clipboard button" and paste the information into your reply.

If you set up your Gmail account as IMAP you can use Oauth2 authentication, which doesn't require to 'allow less secure apps'.

Beyond that, check the entire Google support article.

According to the info you have provided, you do not have two mail accounts. I'm assuming the account 1 pop.gmx.net is your main account which you say is working ok. The info says nothing about a second account. So we have no idea what server settings you were using, so cannot check anything.

Create the account again. I found a link which pointed to a pdf with info on server settings. Use the server settings as advised on page 34 of 60 at the following link: https://www.webland.ch/Portals/0/PDF/support/mailprogramme.pdf

In Thunderbird Menu icon > New Message > Existing Mail Account Enter name Enter Full email address Enter Password select the checkbox to remember password click on 'Continue'

THunderbird will try to locate settings. Click on 'Manual Config' button Make sure the setting is for 'IMAP' incoming server : ms3imap.webland.ch port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication : Normal Password User Name = Full email address

Outgoing Server SMTP settings: ms3smtp.webland.ch port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication : Normal Password User Name = Full email address

If you want to use POP: Then make sure POP is selected. Incoming server name: ms3pop.webland.ch Port: 995 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication : Normal Password User Name = Full email address

Hi Toad Hall I've done all that, a zillion times - also the people from Webland have done and it hasn't worked. I can't create the second account in TB because TB rejects it when it sees (or believes) that the pw or username is wrong. I have to start over again and again... The funny thing is that username and pw work when I access this account with Outlook. The problem has to be in TB somewhere, but I really don't get it... I guess I'll just have to do an automatic forwarding to my main address... but thanks for checking all this out for me! Narges (not bright canary yellow...)

Does the new account wizard detect the correct server settings? If not, use manual setup insted, and adjust the server settings according to your email provider's instructions. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/manual-account-configuration

more options

HI Christ1, I can't tell you if it detects the correct settings, but in any case it says it has detected the settings. I also tried the manual way, but that didn't work either. The guy from the provider said the password should be "normal password", but TB always changes this to Kerberos. Whatever that means... thanks Narges

Unfortunately, if I enter "normal password" in the non-SSL mode, TB says "can't detect settings for this account". If I try it in the SSL mode (with all the details from the provider), TB always changes it back to Kerberos...

Hi Chris, as these things go, after replying to you I tried it again - and it's working now. Don't ask me why - I SWEAR I did the exact same thing yesterday several times over and it didn't work (meaning, TB changed the normal password setting to Kerberos). But now it's ok. Thanks for your help!
