will downloading firefox affect my safari?

I want to still be able to use Safari on my Mac. If I download Firefox will it affect Safari, or will Firefox simply show up as an option that I can use at the bottom bar of my screen? Thanks.

These are separate programs.

During the install process, you can choose Firefox as your default or not.
