I can't get mail and news groups to appear only a specific folder

When I signed on to Thunderbird tonight I usually see the mail and news groups folder. Unfortunately only a specific folder is opening and I am unable to click on the windows tab and select this option. I have rebooted. Shut down Thunderbird and it does not work. Weird thing is that it works fine on my old old PC home computer. It's my portable Mac that's problematic. Can you please help? I have important files that I need to access asap.
