Reply button confusion for news

Recently (since < 1 month) it happens sometimes to me that I accidentally reply to a news message with an email to the sender. I noticed, there are two buttons labelled "reply": the one in the message header and one on the toolbar (see screenshot, if the upload succeeds). I searched and found this old discussion https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mozilla.support.thunderbird/rKuSOomYM5w/discussion as well as this bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=788304

Now, when I click the one in the toolbar I really am sending a reply to the newsgroup which is what I intend. If I click the other "reply" I will send an email reply to the sender.

Question: has there been another recent change to button behavior or am I really tripping into the change mentioned in linked resources above?

Thanks a lot!

It seems because of the awkward way this site handles images I deleted the screenshot. If anybody needs to see it please let me know.

Use the 'Followup' button for newsgroups.

I know I can reply to newsgroup with the "followup" button. But your reply does in no way answer my question.

You can move the Reply button to the customize window and just keep Followup. If you ever need to reply to a sender, you can get that by using the dropmarker for Followup.

Apparently nobody reads what people write here.

You said that you sometimes use Reply in a newsgroup by mistake. If you remove that button from the toolbar, you will no longer have that problem.

OK, since apparently users need some help, here's the question again:

Since when? I can still see it in version 31.8.0.

How do you post to a newsgroup with Thunderbird if there is no Followup? I am using SeaMonkey to do that, so I have no problems.
