Hi, why does firefox no longer have the option to open a new tab with the current URL? My old machine can do this in firefox and we can set Safari to do this. I have just spent one hour trying to find a way to do this. That is probably the same amount of time i will spend in one year copying and pasting tabs, this is driving me nuts!

There must be a solution, i want to be able to open duplicate tabs to speed my searching, this is particluary useful on ebay when you want to keep a page of the origional results and open new tabs so that there is always a reference page to come back to, or if you find results to a question and you want to explore several of these results without always having to use the back button or history.
Please tell me how i can open a new tab with the current URL.

So frustrating. Thanks. James

Firefox never had any menu items for opening the current URL in a new tab. If you had such an option before, it was because of an add-on you were using.

You can open the current URL in a new tab using either of the following methods. These also work for the Back/Forward buttons and menu items underneath them, as well as bookmarks and history items.

  • Middle-Click the Reload button on the right side of the address bar.
  • Hold down the Ctrl key and Left-Click the Reload button on the right side of the address bar.

Congrats! You’re using the latest version of Firefox.

Will take a look

Went to the page and found an add on "custom tab" tried to download it but it's for windows, i'm running a mac. Will look again later, have to go out now. Typically this has wasted much more time than i will ever use copying and pasting URL's. i really don't know why this simple and useful feature isn't in the Firefox preferences!

On a Mac, try the Command Key instead (it's the one with the ⌘ symbol).

Try the following add-on if you want a context menu option for the current tab. This add-on also adds the Ctrl+Shift+U keyboard shortcut, which on a Mac I guess would be Cmd+Shift+U instead.

You can manually download and install the latest version.
